Guy One is a great kologo player from Northern Ghana who recently started touring with the German group The Polyversal Souls.
The kologo is a plucked lute with a skin membrane, and is regarded as the forerunner of the Western banjo. Guy One is a star in his home country and represents the powerful art of kologo music, first being introduced to Western audiences by artists like King Ayisoba.
In his current tours, Guy One teams up with artists from The Polyversal Souls, a German band that excels in very danceable polyrythmic grooves in which Ethiopian melodies interweave with West-African rhythms, Moroccan Berber riffs, jazz, soul and funk, resulting in a pulsating power engine. Together they released the album Invisible Joy, which received rave reviews all over. In 2015, Ghana’s Kologo superstar appeared at the Roskilde concert of the Polyversal Souls in 2015 and set the audience straight into a frantic mood through the authenticity and devotion of his performance.
In January 2018, Guy One released his debut album #1 on Philophon Records.
